================================================== How Do I Use GAVO's Web Interface to the Registry? ================================================== Intro ----- To explore the vastness of the Virtual Observatory (VO) and to discover resources matching your taste and interest, GAVO provides a web-based user interface to the VO registry (the standard for the registration of VO resources). In order to use the "capabilities" of a resource, e.g. a cone search or an image search service, you will need to launch a Web SAMP Hub which is provided, for instance, by the VO application "TOPCAT". Basic Features -------------- The heart of our user interface is a search form that allows you to customise your queries. Adder and subtractor buttons make sure you can add or remove conditions to/from the query send to the registry. While the "Go" button actually launches the query, the star symbol lets you bookmark the current form for later use. Various links in the sidebar populate the search form with predefined queries, e.g. the search for resources in the IR or UV range. Once you've submitted your query matching resources (supposed they exist) will be shown in a list providing the title, the capability/ies, and the info on how to get in touch with the people responsible for a specific resource. A click on the arrow at the beginning of each row will give you more detailed information about the resource. SAMP Usage ---------- First make sure that a Web SAMP Hub is running on your desktop. Then submit your query, wait for results and click on the "Register at SAMP Hub" button. If you've successfully registered at the SAMP hub, the updated button allows to send a set of registry resources of your choice to all clients capable to receive them.
